Hi Donna, Thanks for your reply and sorry I'm so long getting back to you. I've been using BLM online land grant to try and sort the Stevens/Stephens out in the county. BLM has been down several days thus my reason for this late reply,,,and a busy week at work. Two familys I'm working on as connected in some way but maybe not kin are....... Eli/Ely STEPHENS b.1792 of NC (Lots of info Rootsweb) and Preston STEVENS b. 1812 of SC (my line, not much on www) Eli STEPHENS left the Carroll/Montgomery area late 1840s and went to Gonzales County. Tx. Preston STEVENS arrived C/M Counties 1840-50 and remained. He was on 50 and 60 censuses. A Reddick P STEVENS was on Carroll County 1840 and I think was a brother of Preston. Reddick was in Ashley County,Arkansas 1850/60. I can't determine yet if these two were related but both married THompsons that were related, Both were found on several Carroll County documents, wills, guardianships, etc,,,as witnesses, appraisers, etc. Thus I know they were at least neighbors/friends. Other STEVENS related to Preston are,, James L and Darly/Darby. I think maybe Prestons brothers by being near the same age. At least cousins. All their land grants were next to each other, strong circumstantial evidence imo. Another STEVENS found living two HH's from Preston was Abram STEVENS b. 1823, from Tennessee. First assuming living almost next door was strong eveidence but the Tennessee birth threw me off on this. My main goal is to sort out the different Stevens lines in that area, at that time, and hope that some of this makes sense for you and others researching the Stevens in the area and help me with a few brick walls too. I think there was a family down around Vaiden that can be in the mix and maybe spill over in to Attala County. At this point, it's a mess to say the least. I have all the names but can't quite sort them out yet. Any info or theories welcome... Thanks again Jerry Notify Administrator about this message?
