I am looking to see if I can extend a Smith branch of my family tree. Researching Smith's has its advantages and disadvantages: there are so many Smith's it is easy to get lost in the numbers, but then again there are more people doing Smith genealogy, so hopefully that increases chances you can find someone to help you separate the wheat from the chaff. In my case, a complication is that I have a Smith who married a Smith. James Thomas Smith and Nannie Greselder Smith of Newton County, Mississippi are maternal great grandparents of mine. Their son Clifton L. Smith is my grandfather. I am stuck on James Thomas Smith, and the parents of Nannie Greselder Smith. Here is what I presently have on James Thomas Smith and Nannie Greselder Smith: JAMES THOMAS SMITH was born July 07, 1871 in Newton County, Mississippi, and died January 16, 1934 in Little Rock, Mississippi. He married NANNIE GRESELDER SMITH, daughter of NORRIS FRANKLIN SMITH and ANNIE WHITE. She was born July 13, 1877 in Newton County, Mississippi, and died January 26, 1972 in Picayune, Pearl River, Mississippi. Notes for Nannie Greselder's parents: ============================================================= ANNIE WHITE was born September 14, 1850 in Mississippi, and died July 18, 1927 in Mississippi. She married NORRIS FRANKLIN SMITH December 16, 1868. He was born March 04, 1847 in Alabama, and died June 10, 1921 in Newton County, Mississippi. Notes for NORRIS FRANKLIN SMITH: Garnett Smith Graham memoirs: Civil War veteran. Co 36 MS Infantry Civil War. Fought in Battle of Vicksburg. Suppose he was discharged there. A cousin got a marker for his grave many years after his death. Understand he had a full beard, because he quit shaving at an early age. ============================================================= Nannie Greselder's bothers and sisters were: ============================================================ Children of NANNIE GRESELDER SMITH'S parents ANNIE WHITE and NORRIS FRANKLIN SMITH: i.
