Hello Brita Pruitt,
My name is Timmy L. Pruitt and I was born in Newotn Mississippt on 11 Ocotber 1957. My Greatgrand Father's nmae is Sam Jones who died in January of 1975. My father's name is Calvin Pruitt and my Mothers name is Ora D. Pruitt. Sam Jones was born in 1889 in the town of Meridian Mississippi. He moved to a small commuinty outside of Newotn called Shiloh Mississippi. We are kin to the Davis's, Jordans, and Pickens of Newton by marriage and we on both my fathers side and my mothes side are Choctaw Indians/African Americans. My Great Great Grandmother's name was Amelia Pruitt and she was 80 percent Indian and was the most beautiful woman in Newton during her life time. My Grandfathers name is Robeert Lewis Pruitt (deceased) he was born in Jasper Couinty and moved to Newton were he married Sam Jones daughter Bertha Jones who became Bertha Pruitt. She had seven sons their names are Robert Pruitt, Calvin Pruitt, Willie James Pruitt (Deceased), Harry Charles Pruitt, William (Bill)Pruitt, John Earl Pruitt, Otis Pruitt, Alvin Pruitt, Mary Lois Pruitt,(Aunt) Joe Francis Pruitt(Aunt). All of our features for the most part are with high cheek bones just like the Choctaw Indians who still live on a reservation in town called Philadelphia Mississippi which is now Neshoba County. My dad who still lives in Newton is a fountain of information concerning our Indian/African American Heritage. My mom when I speak to her often recalls some of events that took place when she was a girl but they both can recall things as far back as the early or mid 1930's. I have tried to do some research on Sam Jones but a lot of the records were burmed in the County Courthouse in Decatur Mississippi. The best place to look for records of Sam Jones is in the 1880-1890 Census. But again his family was from Meridan. Their are a few other names that come to mind and they are Lucy Jones, Annie Mae Jones, we had an Aunt named Maude which had a brother that lived in California. My dad is familiar with the Davis surname but I can't remember them ofter speaking about it.

I rememeber visiting my Uncle Willie James in Spring of 1973 or 1974 he had a daugther named Brita and a son named Charlie they lived in Sacramento as well.
