Como - NORFLEET RUFFIN ‘N.R.’ SLEDGE, 80, died at his home on July 3. 2008. N.R. was the son of the late Judge Norfleet Ruffin Sledge and the late Clara Wesson Sledge. N.R. graduated from Sewanee Military Academy. After serving in the U.S. Navy, N.R. attended and graduated from Vanderbilt University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Johnson (Trudy) Sledge and three children; Julia S. Bryan (Michael) of Culleoka, TN., Meriwether S. Eisenhard (Stephen) of Downingtown, PA., Norfleet Ruffin Sledge, junior of Como, MS.; five grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. A life long member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church, N.R. was active in church business and a lay reader for many years. After working in Memphis for Union Planters National Bank he moved back to Como, MS. To oversee his farming interests following the death of his stepmother, Obedience Wesson Sledge. He was a former member of the University Club of Memphis, TN.; Rotary Club of Como, MS. And Panola County School Board. A Memorial Service will be held Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Innocents Church followed by burial at Friendship Cemetery.
