Vernon Shouse, 73, died May 15, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was the owner of Kerr-McGee and Shouse's Chevron service stations for 30 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a past officer of the American Legion. He was a 1953 graduate of Marietta High School, where he was Mr. MHS and a star basketball player. He enjoyed fishing, walking, spending time with his dogs, Bettie and Mosie, Mississippi State University baseball and drinking coffee with his buddies.
Services were at McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Booneville Cemetery.
Survivors included two daughters, Teresa Shouse of Booneville and Tana Owens (Greg) of Mobile, Ala.; one son, Sam Shouse of Birmingham, Ala.; his mother, Ruby Shouse of Marietta; his mother-in-law, Mary Wallace of Booneville; three sisters, Helen Greenhill (Curtis) of Wheeler, Louise Vickers (Bennie) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lynnette Thornton (Gary) of Marietta; one brother, J.W. Shouse (Jo) of Decatur, Ala.; six grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Jerry Wallace (Faye) of Booneville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Wallace Shouse, and his father, Homer G. Shouse.
