Martha L. Simmons Shumpert, 60, died July 9, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was the valedictorian of the Wick Anderson High School Class of 1966. She attended Lane College from 1967-1968. She was a member of Oak Hill M.B. Church, where she was assistant church clerk and a member of the Missionary Society and Usher Board. She enjoyed going to church events, meeting people, and being with family and friends.
Services were at Oak Hill M.B. Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Patterson Memorial Chapel of Corinth was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included three sons, Robert C. Shumpert, Boyce J. Shumpert and Byron J. Shumpert; one daughter, Zandra Shumpert; her father, Charlie M. Agnew; five brothers, Charlie G. Agnew, William M. Agnew, John L. Hooper, Edgar F. Simmons and Thomas Simmons; seven sisters, Gloria J. Agnew, Vera A. Moore, Pamela Friar, Clara Hurd, Lee G. Christian, Mary Stacks and Minnie Foster; her mother-in-law, Dorothy McGaha; a special aunt, Martha Pierce; grandchildren, LaZandrea, Haley Jamias and Markaya.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy Agnew and John Hooper; her husband, Boyce Shumpert; and a sister, Annie Evelyn Shack.
