William L. "Buck" Yancey, 77, died July 15, 2008, at his home in Yuma, Ariz. He was born May 29, 1931, in Booneville. He served 21 years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. His military career carried him to Yuma in 1963 and he remained there following his retirement from the Marine Corps in 1970. He spent the next 25 years in automotive sales, most recently at Alexander Ford. He was active in American Legion Post 19, and he was a life member of Elks Club 476.
Memorial services were at the First Baptist Church in Ripley. McBride Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included his wife of 55 years, Gail Martin Yancey of New Albany; one son, W.L. "Bill" Yancey; three daughters, Mary (J. D. Hayworth) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Melinda (Mike Edwards) and Debbie (Reggie Feller), both of Yuma; his mother, Marie Yancey of Ripley; one brother, Dr. Rex Yancey (Ellon) of Ripley; one sister, Nell Self of Dumas; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of relatives in Northeast Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Yancey, and a brother, Ray Yancey.
