Sumner - BOULDIN ALCORN MARLEY, SR., longtime resident and planter from Sumner, Ms, died Sunday morning, July 2, 2006, at his home after a long illness of Parkinson's Disease. His funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at Episcopal Church of the Advent in Sumner. The very Reverend Sylvia Robertshaw Czarnetzky will officiate with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sumner. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. before the funeral service at Mr. Marley's home, 183 Jenkins Road in Sumer. Memorials may be made to Bouldin's beloved church home, Episcopal Church of the Advent in Sumner. Bouldin was born August, 10, 1823, in Clarksdale, MS. He was the son of the late Frank Christian Marley and the late Florence Bouldin Marley of Clarksdale. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife, the late Tonya Thornton Marley, "Tootsie". Bouldin was a graduate of Clarksdale High School and graduated in Engineering from the University of Mississippi. He was a U. S. Navy Hell Cat pilot in World War II and settled in Sumner with his wife, Tonya, where he was a farmer for many years. Bouldin was an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver in 1972 and devoted many years as a troop leader and Executive Board Member for the Boy Scouts. St. George's Episcopal Church in Clarksdale was his first church home where he served as both Junior and Senior Warden. After moving to Sumner, he was very instrumental in founding his current church home, Episcopal Church of the Advent, where he was Junior and Senior Warden, Layreader, Sunday School teacher, Treasurer and Choir Member for 25 plus years. Bouldin was a Rotarian and past President of the Sumner Rotary Club and was made a Paul Harris Fellow in 1999. He was a past director of the Clarksdale Country Club and Bayou Bend Country Club. He was a former President of the West Tallahatchie School Board and served on the Board for 11 years. Bouldin was also the town of Sumner's keeper of the tower clock for many, volunteer years. He was a natural athlete and excelled at both golf and tennis. He represented the United States on it's People to People Tennis Association with visits to many countries throughout Europe. While attending Ole Miss, Bouldin was a Member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and was a former President of the North Delta University of Mississippi alumni Association. Mr. Marley is survived by his three children, Dr. Bouldin Alcorn Marly, Jr. and his wife, LeAnne, from Helena, Christian Thornton Marley and his wife, Cheri, from Clarksdale, and Madge Marley Vance and her husband, Quimby, from Sumner, "Boby" leaves five grandchildren, Minette Marley Townsend, Christian Thornton Marley, Jr., Anna Pfeifer Marley, Tony Clay Marley, and Florence Corinne Vance and two great-grandchildren, Marley Grace Townsend and Emory Katherine Townsend. He is also survived by his devoted Himalayan feline companion, Salty Sambo. Those who knew Bouldin were aware of his deep faith, his desire to always seek the truth, and his appreciation of patience. Bouldin was a devoted Christian, husband, father and friend and was known as a wise and gentle Southern man.
