Clarksdale - MATTIE EVELYN COLEMAN BELL, 92, born December 12, 1913, died August 2, 2006 at Northwest Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m.Thursday, August 3 at her daughter's home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, August 4 at First United Methodist Church in Clarksdale with burial in Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale. Born in Prairie Point, MS, and moving to Clarksdale as a small child, Mrs. Bell was the daughter of Elizabeth Cole and Robert Michaux Coleman. She was the second child of five children, Elizabeth, Lucille, Robbie and Bob, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Hudson Ford Bell, Jr. Having worked in the Sheriff and Tax Collector's office at the Coahoma County Courthouse for many years, she retired in 1979. She was a lifelong member and supporter of First United Methodist Church in Clarksdale and was active in her community. She was a long standing member of the D.A.R. and Coahoma Woman's Club. Mrs. Bell is survived by her son, Hudson Ford Bell IV and his wife, Sandy of Winter Park, FL; a daughter, Elizabeth McElroy and her husband, Ronnie of Clarksdale; four grandchildren, Hudson F. Bell V of San Francisco, CA, Garland Bell Lamkin of Louisville, KY, Winn McElroy of Oxford, MS and Ford McElroy of Clarksdale; three nephews, Charles Bland of Grand Junction, TN, Bob Coleman, III and Clay Coleman, both of Baton Rouge, LA; a niece, Lillee Clark of Gainesville, GA. She was the proud great-grandmother of three, Nelson Lamkin and Cole Lamkin, both of Louisville, and her namesake, Mattie McElroy of Clarksdale, born July 30, 2006. Also surviving Mrs. Bell are her sisters-in-law, Ms. Florence White of Clarksdale and Mrs. R.M. Coleman, Jr. of Baton Rouge.
