Coldwater - DR. ALBERT DAVID POWELL, 90, a Christian, loving father and caring physician, passed away June 11, 2007 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oxford, after a brief illness. He was born January 30, 1917 in Independence, MS and was a lifelong resident of Coldwater, MS. Dr. Powell was a retired family physician, an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church Coldwater, director of Citizens Bank, former Alderman for the town of Coldwater and School Board Member. He was a graduate of Mississippi College, University of Tennessee School of Medicine in 1941 and interned at John Gaston Hospital He joined his father, Dr. M. M. Powell, Sr. and his brother, Dr. M. M. Powell at Powell Clinic in 1942, until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Powell was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman. Dr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Stewart Powell. He leaves three children, Jean Powell Jensen of Houston, TX, Dr. Albert David Powell, Jr. of Oxford, MS, and Dr. Stewart Powell of Rutherfordton, NC. He also leaves seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dr. Powell's services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14 at the First Baptist Church in Coldwater, MS, with Rev. Bob Maddux, officiating. The burial will follow the funeral service at Magnolia Cemetery.
