James H. Mars Jr., 89, died June 17, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving under Gen. Patton. He was a former employee of the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He attended the Methodist church.
Services were at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with burial in Snowdown Cemetery.
Survivors included one daughter, Martha Plunk of Memphis; one brother, Charles (Katherine) Mars of Memphis; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lauree Vinson Mars; his parents, Maudeline Smith and James H. Mars Sr.; and a son, Jim Mars.
