Leslie Gene Haines, 84, died June 20, 2008, at Lakeland Nursing and Rehab in Jackson. He was active in the Iuka United Methodist Church, where he served in the Administrative Board and was a former Chairman. He was the first president of the Iuka Methodist Men’s Club. He received many awards at as a former employee of 53 years at the Iuka Post Office as a rural mail carrier. He was a former president of the First District Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a member and past master of the Iuka Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a former president and member of the Iuka Country Club. He enjoyed golf, swimming, bridge and coin collecting. He was a member of Mensa and Intertel Societies for the intellectually gifted for over 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and had tours of duty in France and Germany. Services were at the Iuka United Methodist Church with burial at the Oak Grove Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka was in charge of the arrangements. Survivors included one son, Carter Haines (Jackie) of Jackson; one sister, Bettye Guthrie of Cherokee, Ala.; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Haines; one son, Jim Haines; one daughter, Leslie Haines. Pallbearers will be Butch Thomas, Don Waldrep, Frank Brinkley Jr., John Castleberry, Bill Curtis Jr., Gary Lomenick, R.L. Brown III and D.O. Jourdan III. Honorary Pallbearers will be R.L. Brown Jr., Cotton Wade, Ted Castleberry, Bill Curtis, Olen Jourdan, Dr. Tom Goyer, Sr. Kelly Segars, Milt Burton, Ben Burns, Robert Arnold and Melvin Jackson. Notify Administrator about this message?
