Tishomingo – Alvis W. McRae, 86, died July 3, 2009, at his residence. He was born Sept. 24, 1922, in the Highland community to John Thomas and Altie Elizabeth Blunt McRae. He was owner of McRae’s Gro. and Market, and a faithful member of Tishomingo Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
Services were at Tishomingo Baptist Church with burial in Highland Cemetery at Tishomingo. Deaton Funeral Home of Belmont was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors included his wife of 56 years, Nelda McRae of Tishomingo; two children, Marsha Black (Charles) and Kirby G. McRae (Pamela), all of Tishomingo; one brother, Edward McRae (Ola Mae) of Iuka; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa McRae Parker; his parents; two sisters, Earl McRae and Elsie Mohundro; and five brothers, Herbert McRae, Otey McRae, Clarence McRae, Delbert McRae and William McRae.
