Elise Caperton White, 93, died Oct. 7 following a lengthy illness, in Bel Air, Maryland, where she had lived for the past year. Mrs. White, who was a resident of Anniston, Ala., for 60 years, was born in Maben, Mississippi, in 1915 to John Wallace Caperton and Rogenia Lee Caperton.

Mrs. White grew up in Tunica, Miss., and was valedictorian of the class of 1932 at Tunica Agricultural School. She attended the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Phi Mu social sorority. After completing her education, she returned to Tunica and served as bookkeeper for her father. On March 30, 1944, she married Dr. William Ezzell White, whom she had met previously at Fort McClellan while visiting friends in Anniston.

The following year, Mrs. White resided in Tunica while her husband served military tours in Europe and the Pacific. The young couple settled in Anniston in 1947 after the completion of his radiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

During her many years in Anniston, Mrs. White contributed generously to the life of her adopted hometown. She was a member of the Euterpean Study Club, the Revelers’ Krewe, the Junior League of Anniston, Knox Music Club, the Medical Wives Auxiliary, and the Anniston Country Club.

Dr. and Mrs. White shared a passion for orchids. While his efforts focused on cultivation, she enjoyed arranging them. She shared her gift with countless friends to provide comfort or to mark a special occasion. Mrs. White loved her home on Hillyer High Road and continued hosting parties there until her 90th birthday.

She is survived by two sons: Dr.William Ezzell White, Jr., and his wife Donna of Bel Air, MD, and John Caperton White and his wife Gina of Memphis, TN; five grandchildren: Emily Elise White, Ellen White Jasinski, John Caperton White, Jr., William Ewing White, and Richard Whitaker White; and two great-grandchildren, Anna Katherine Jasinski and Maren Elise Jasinski.

A memorial service was held October 18, at First Presbyterian Church, Anniston AL, where Mrs. White had been a member for more than 50 years.
