Minister, teacher, loving husband, father and grandfather, Dr. Charles Rolfe Tucker, 85, passed away on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2008 in the comfort of his home. Born on Dec. 18, 1922 in Charleston, Miss., Charles was the son of the late Harry Randolf Tucker and Lucy Rolfe Tucker. Dr. Tucker’s career as a minister began at Kirkwood Baptist Church in Kirkwood, Ky. In 1952, he came the pastor of Parkton Baptist Church in Parkton, NC and later taught the Bible and Theology at Wingate University. Following Wingate, Dr. Tucker and his family moved to Cary, NC, where he became the first pastor of Greenwood Forest Baptist Church. In 1964, he became a Sociology professor at Meredith College until his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rachel Stubbs Tucker; his sons, Randy Tucker (Zoe McKay-Tucker) and Ed Tucker (Noel W. Tucker), both of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Lucas McKay, Chris Tucker, Spencer McKay, Zack Tucker, Dylan Tucker and Mary Jordan Tucker; and his sister, Ann Tucker Denser of Memphis. Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy Tucker and Senator Jack Tucker, both of Tunica. A memorial service was held Monday, Dec. 1 at First Baptist Church in Raleigh.
