Charles Mayes Spencer Jr, 90, breathed his last breath Sunday, Dec 14, surrounded by his family in a room full of love and joy that only God provides. Services were Dec. 18 at Forest Hill Funeral Home in Memphis with burial at Memphis Memory Gardens.
A Naval veteran who served in the Marshall Islands, he was born October 11, 1918 in Myrtle, Miss. He and his beloved wife of 54 years, the late Eunice Dickey, raised their family in Memphis and were active Leawood Baptist Church members. He brought joy to many through his sweet spirit, gracious smile and with his songs of praise and remembrance. He delighted in fishing, dominoes and recalling wonderful times with family and worship of the Lord, witnessed by his favorite hymn My Jesus I Love You. After 36 years of dedicated service, he retired from White Rose Industrial Laundry in 1980.
He is survived by three children, Linda Wamble and Tommy Spencer (Deone) of Bartlett and Susan Woods (Stewart) of Tunica Miss.; grandchildren Doug Wamble, Marie Warner, Elizabeth Woods, Trey Woods and Brandon Spencer and five great grandchildren.
