John Wallace Wright of Olive Branch, Miss. died Jan. 4, 2009 after an eight month battle with pancreatic cancer. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the Twin Oaks Funeral Home with burial in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Mr. Wright was born in Clarksdale, Miss. on Aug. 4, 1940, but was raised in Tunica. He was better known as “Cochise” by his friends and teammates of the Memphis State football team from 1960 to 1965. An All Star and All State player for Mississippi, he was recruited by Billy “Spook” Murpjy in 1960 for the Tigers and awarded a full scholarship. Due to his outstanding football career at the U of M, Mr. Wright went on to play professional football for the Denver Broncos until a knee injury ended his football career. He returned home to the U of M to finish his degree in Industrial Arts. After graduation, he coached and taught high school football in Panola, Miss. and Apopka, Fla. He went on to pursue a career in sales until he was called into the ministry. Mr. Wright graduated from Rhema Bibba Training Center in Tulsa, Ok. and established and pastored Honeyrock Fellowship Church in Memphis, Tenn. He continued to serve the Lord as a pastor and chaplain until he was called home. Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carolyn Wright of Olive Brnach; three sons, Vennie Zorzoli of Southaven, Joseph Zorzoli of Southaven and Bryan Ratchip of Southaven; two daughters, Haley Crawford of Southaven and Maria Roberts of Nesbit; two brothers, Michael Wright of Tunica and Toby Wright of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; one sister, Eloise Strand of Paradise, Texas and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Peaches Wright; a sister, Margie Morris and a great granddaughter, Isabella. Notify Administrator about this message?
