Services for John Samuel Jeffries, Jr. were held at noon on March 7, 2009 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Jeffries died Feb. 26, 2009 in Erlangen, Germany. He was born Dec. 23, 1982 to the late Juanita Belton Ware and John Samuel Jeffries Sr. Friends and family knew him as “Spanky.”

Mr. Jeffries confessed a belief in Jesus Christ at an early age. In 1996, he moved to Hampton, Va, where he graduated from Hampton High School in 2002. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served four years of active duty. During this four year period, he was deployed to Iraq twice. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 2006. After a brief return to civilian life, Mr. Jeffries re-enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2008 and was stationed in Grafenwohr, Germany.

He is survived by his father, John Samuel Jeffries Sr. and stepmother Evelyn of Memphis; adoptive mother Vadous Belton of Newport News, Va.; a sister, Juanita Corley of Memphis; four brothers, Calvin Belton (Jessica) of Milton, Fla., Issac Belton of Oak Creek, Wis., Joseph Jeffries and Jared Jeffries, both of Michigan City, Ind.; a stepsister, Erica Liddell; a stepbrother, Cornelius Rhodes; four aunts, five uncles, five nieces, 10 nephews, a great niece and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Belton Ware.
