Services for Ellis Elmer Harris, 93, who died March 30 at Pioneer Community Hospital of Aberdeen, were held April 2 at First Baptist Church in Aberdeen, Miss., with burial at Oddfellows Rest Cemetery.
Mr. Harris was born in Lee County to Greenie Grady and Arbie Maude Roebuck Harris. Monroe County has been his home for the past 80 years. He graduated from Wren High School and furthered his education at Draughan Business College, Mississippi State University and Auburn University. He was a deacon emeritus and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion for 62 years. He owned and operated Aberdeen Furniture and Appliance Company until his retirement in 1983.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Vergie Mae Miller Harris of Aberdeen; a daughter, Rosalind Harris Morris of Clinton, Miss.; a sister, Pauline Griffin of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; three grandsons, John Morris (Angela) of Tunica, Miss., Jason Morris of Lewisville, Texas and Davis Morris (Julie) of Bolton, Miss., and seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Jenny Ruth Harris, and a twin brother, Ellis Elvin Harris.
