Prentiss Longest, 76, died April 11, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto County. He taught in the public schools of Mississippi and Arkansas for more than 20 years. He was a 1953 graduate of the Union County Training School in New Albany. He was a private in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1958 he received his undergraduate degree from Industrial College in Holly Springs. He also completed several courses at the University of Mississippi Graduate School of Education.
Graveside services were at the Shiloh CME Church Cemetery with Beasley Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors included one brother, Wallace Longest of Holly Springs; a sister-in-law, Ethel Longest of Michigan; nephews, Tyrone Williams, Arlando Williams and Bernell Thomas Longest, all of Michigan, Anthony Leavell of Florida and Carl Hagler of Ohio; nieces, Gwendolyn Benning and JaNelia Byrd of Michigan, Valetta Littlejohn and Sherrie Hagler of Ohio, Deborah Allen of Maryland, and Cyrana Motto and Cereesa Lacey of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Clyde Longest, Mary B. Leavell, Jimmy Longest, Bernell Longest, Helen Williams and Evelyn Hagler.
