Grace Gertrude Bircheat Garrison 94, died on May 1, 2008, at Graceland Care Center in New Albany. Mama Grace was born March 22, 1914, in Lee County to the late Hugh and Annie Mae Hicks Kilgo. Ms. Garrison was a farmer, sharecropper, master quilter, homemaker, loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Services were at United Funeral Home Chapel. Burial procession was at Cornersville Cemetery where the burial will take place.
Survivors included one daughter Mick Ross of CA.; 2 granddaughters Patricia "Patsy" Beane Simmons of CA; Caroldean Ross of CA.; 2 great grandson, Michael Allen Simmons of CA and Henry "Butch" Simmons II of CA and his significant other Sammy Correa; 4 sisters, Lana Alred of AR; Savannah Woods of MS.; Nannie Ruth Presley of MS and Louise Kilgo of IL. Mama Grace was also a caring aunt to 32 nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her baby sister Mary Basuer; husband Chester Garrison; 4 brothers, Jack Kilgo, Willie Kilgo, Palmer Kilgo and J.B. Kilgo; as well as her first husband Leroy Bircheat.
