Obit: Carl Sanders Hall

Carl Sanders Hall, 88, died June 27, 2008, at The Magnolia Place. He was born in Union County on Dec. 5, 1919, to Joel Quinton and Susan Sanders Hall. He graduated from Tippah Union High School and attended Holmes Junior College where he played football. He joined the Navy in 1941 where he served as a machinist mate in San Diego, Calif. He was an insurance agent, a real estate broker, and co-owner with his wife in Hall Hamilton Hardware Store. He served on the Board of Aldermen for New Albany. Gov. Paul B. Johnson appointed him to serve as member of the Local Board #79. He served as a Colonel on Gov. Paul B. Johnson’s Staff. He was a member of the New Albany Board of Realtors. He was a Master Mason and a member of the Joseph Warren Lodge for 58 years and a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. He was a volunteer fireman and a former President of Oaks Country Club. He was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board and a member of the Hugh Clayton Sunday School Class.

He also served on the Wells Chapel Cemetery
Committee. He enjoyed flying, hunting, archery, golfing, growing tomatoes, RV-ing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He shared his wonderful insight and wisdom and will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren.

Services were at the United Funeral Service Chapel with burial at the Wells Chapel.

Survivors included one daughter, Sheri Hall Smith (Ralph) of New Albany; one son, Thomas Carl Hall (Usha) of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren, Sherilyn Goode (Robbie), Mary Ouida Creasy (Steve), Ralph Guy Hall Smith, Joshua Hall and Matt Hall (Allison); one step-granddaughter, Angelia; five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Ouida Norton Hall; one brother, Roy Hall; four sisters, Beula Mayes, Sallie Jenkins, Jane Hendrick and Cou Madge Childers; his grandparents, George Washington and Mary Matilda Ford Hall and James William and Martha Caroline Jamieson Sanders.
