Hi Carolyn,
Ever chance I get I keep digging for the ancestor of Barnabus STEPHENS/STEVENS (1730-1781). I have come to the conlusion: his father was William STEPHENS who came from Scotland in 1739 and received the grant on the Cape Fear River in 1740. This William STEPHENS was from Argyll, Scotland. There is another possiblity William STEPHENS/STEPHENSON who lived on Conoconnora Swamp. He didn't live too far from our BROWN's. I traced this line back to Isle of Wight Co., VA. Bruce POWELL in his research thought that Barnabus STEPHENS was a descendant of Gov. William STEPHENS of GA. I have all the STEPHENS in my line in the computer. Now to print it out. I was in touch with a descendant of William STEVENS of Duplin Co., NC and I suggested he do a DNA test with the STEVENS group. Don't know if he will do it or not.
What are you working on?
