Did J.T. Lanier go to trial for this murder? What was the outcome? D.L.Love, newspaper editor of another town had made "a publication reflecting on the virtue of a young lady that had just married Mr. Lanier. Mr. Lanier, on landing from the steamer GRAND TOWER,in company with the young lady's father, armed with a double barreled shotgun, discovered Love in the rear of Compton's livery stable and immediately opened fire emptying both barrels. Lanier then opened with two large callibre pistols and while Love was endeavoring to crawl off, shot him repeatedly, until his pistols were emptied and Love was dead. Lanier is in jail awaiting trial." This was in Greenville newspaper Oct. 21, 1881. It also made the "New Orleans Democrat" on October 27, 1881. Any information on this interesting tale? Sara
