I believe that the courthouse burned down in 1879. A new one was built in 1881 and that one burned down on 9/19/ 1892. Many records can be found in the adjoining counties of Clark, Greene, Jones, Jasper, Washington County, Alabama, and mobile. I think I got this info from the history of Wayne County, MS 1809-1999. It was complied by the Wayne County Genealogy Organization INC. Hope this helps.
