I have a framed original document that reads, ""State of Mississippi To all who shall see these presents --Greeting: WHEREAS, It appears by the returns received at the Office of the Adjutant General, that C.C. Clark is duly and constitutionally elected to the office of Lieutenant of Company [difficult to read - in old script, it looks like a letter "P" reversed, so the cap of the "P" is on the left side of the upright instead of the right side] in the 33rd Regiment Miss. Militia. NOW KNOW YE, That in consequence thereof, and by virtue of the Constitution and Laws of this State, we do authorize and empower him, the said C.C. Clark to execute and fulfill the duties of that office according to Law, And we do strictly charge and require all officers and soldiers under his command to be obedient to his orders as such. Adn he is to observe and follow such orders and directions, from time to time, as he shall receive from the Governor of the State for the time being and from superior officers set over him according to law. IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I ALEXANDER G. McNUTT, Governor of the State aforesaid, have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Great Seal of the State to be hereunto affixed. GIVEN UNDER MY HAND, at the City of Jackson, the 14th day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-one and of the sovereignty of the State of Mississippi the twenty-fourth. (Signed) Alexander McNutt" Might any of you be able to tell me, 1. Where and on what date the 33rd Regiment of Mississippi Militia was formed and in what activities, at what locations it might have been involved in around 1841? 2. Where I might locate a 33rd Regiment roster for the 1841 time period? 3. Anything at all about C.C. Clark - family genealogy, parents, children, etc.? It is my guess that this C.C. Clark is the C.C. Clark whose name appears in the 1840, 1850 and 1860 Winston County, Mississippi Census, but that is a guess only for that is the only reference to a "C.C. Clark" that I have been able to find. Also, I have found another reference to a 335d Regiment, Mississippi Militia in Winston County, circa 1845. Thanks in advance for any help on this. I do look forward to hearing from you.
