William D. Russell of York Co., SC is thought to have married Lucy Smith. He and his wife appear in the 1850 census. Lucy is 39. According to another researcher,Lucy was the daughter of Stephen and Winifred Darnall Kindrick Smith. When Stephen died about 1828 York Co. SC the children were placed in quardianship of a Mr. Webb. He died and the guardianship went to Joshua P. Smith in 1835. Also in 1835, Steven Smith's estate was being adm. by William D. Russell. I research a William Preston Smith, born 1813 in Rock Hill, York Co., SC. His wife was a Nancy Russell, born in 1810, in SC. His eldest son was Steven/Stephen, born 1833 in SC.This family moved to Winston Co., MS by 1850. The two youngest children Samuel Harris Smith and Louis Preston Smith were born in Madison Co., MS..1845, 1847, respectively. Back to William D. Russell. He had a son John who by 1900 was a Baptist minister in Dallas, TX. John who was also born in York Co., SC., wrote letters to these younger family members and they were known to be cousins. I would like to know just how this relationship was made...was Lucy Smith a sister to William Preston Smith? Was Nancy Russell a sister of William D. Smith? William D. Russell was 43 in 1850 and Nancy Russell Smith was age 40 that year. In addition, a James Starlem Russell also wrote as " a cousin" to these two younger members of the family. He was from Mills Spring, Polk Co., NC. I haven't been able to locate him in a census. Any help in determining this family relation and determining the parents of William Preston Smith and Nancy Russell will be SO appreciated! Arlina Notify Administrator about this message?
