I am looking for anyone with information on the N.J. Smith and O.S. Forbis that married Aug. 19, 1851 in Yalobusha County, MS. I found them on 1860 Wood County, Tx.Census listed as O.S. Forbus b. abt. 1827 in Al., wife, Nancy J.Forbus b. abt 1834 in Ms. with two children: James N. Forbus b. Aug. 1856 and Sarah J.J. Forbus b. abt 1859. Octavus S. Forbis lived in Wood Co. & Rains Co., Tx. I have a copy of O.S.'s CSA Pension Application. His full name was Octavus(Octavious)Spencer Forbis by what I can gather. The 1850 Yalusbusha Co. Census yielded two possible families: #730 of Edridge & Lucinda Smith and #1056 Of Neil & Jimma Smith as both had a dau. Nancy born about the right time to be our Nancy. However, we believe that our Nancy may have had Indian ancestry as we understood O.S. and Nancy's children were 1/2 Indian. By 1880 Rains Co. Tx. Census records, O.S.'s father was from SC and mother from Ireland and he was b. in 1825. Nancy's parents were both from MS and she was b. 1836.
