Yazoo County during the time frame you mention was really the "True Frontier." Early records may be sketchy. The county was created from Hinds County about 1823. Hinds County was only a year or two old at that time. The book, Yazoo County, Mississippi Pioneers by Betty Couch Wiltshire has one entry in the index for Jesse Cole. There are no entries for any Austin. Jesse Cole's name is found in the Probate Minute Book A, page 2, December Term 1834 of the Probate Court: "Application to rent the real estate of Jesse Cole, deceased, for the year 1835." So, with this info, the death date has been narrowed down from 1831-1834, not 1841-1841. We learn that he owned real estate and you should be able to find something about this in the deed records. If he was an original land owner, he would be found in the land patents at the BLM-GLO records at http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/ Yes, these records are back on line after being down for some months. Yazoo County has deed index books for transactions after the original purchase from the U.S. They also have sectional indexes once you know the location of the property for tracing ownership down through the ages. If you can't get to Yazoo County or to the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in Jackson, you can order films from the LDS (Mormon) library. I don't think the LDS filmed the sectional index books, however. When Cole's land was eventually sold, you may find out something about the heirs, etc. Good luck.
