Mulgrew -a French connection?

Family reputed to have come from France(pre1410) to Ayrshire ,Scotland .Bought land from John Adams in 1410 (Ayr parish Records,I've not seen these but heard of it from my father,now dead).From Scotland to Ireland then back to Scotland.Name thought to have been derived from Mac le Grue(le grue-the long legged bird-symbol used in Alsace)
Also spelling M'Illgerrew (the"'" is a backward apostrophe indicating "mac" i.e."the son of".
