Info re altar inscription John Mullarkey
Posted by: nanette Date: April 23, 2001 at 17:36:01

I hope someone can help me with this! I found a beautiful oak altar front today at auction here in the US. The shipment came from Europe and I think this piece in particular came from Ireland or Scotland. The following is engraved into the wood on one of the front panels--
"Of your charity
Pray for the repose
of the soul of
John Mullarkey"
Does anyone know the story here? Who was John Mullarkey? Why is this inscription on the altar? What church is this from? Please hurry if you can. Auction is tomorrow night and the more history I can get, the more I will pay!
Thanks so much for your help!
