Charles Muller Le Rouge, the Baker from France.
I have him as born about 1809 in France, probably migrating to the US around 1835-1842. He died in Santa Fe, 28 Jan 1874.
He was married in France and had one child there, according to the story of his 3rd wife in New Mexico. This first wife Angelica, died from an accident leaving a new born child of theirs. He had no contact with this child, unknown, after coming to the US.
He married Maria Rosa Quintana (1826-1860) of New Mexico in about 1842. She died suddenly leaving six children. The first US Census of 1850, Santa Fe, Santa Fe, New Mexico spells his name "Moulin".(It took me hours to go through each page to find him!)These six children stayed to the North in New Mexico and kept the name "Lerouge".
Quickly as with 6 children, he remarried to Maria Rita Garcia, New Mexico,(1835-1911) and they hadthree children. These 3 children migrated South eventually to Moriarty, NM and used the "Muller" surname.
I'm not certain as to why or how Charles (and his third wife Rita) used both Muller and LeRouge (LaRue) at different times in the Census'.
He was a First Lieutenant, serving in the Civil War and a community leader, joining the Odd Fellows Org in Santa Fe.His remains were first buried at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Santa Fe, then moved along with other soldiers who'd served, to the National Cemetery there.
This should be plenty to get his family tree started for his children and progeny in New Mexico. I have no information on his early life in France.
If you search online for "Lerouge", you'll come across a genealogy page of one of his descendants that has more info.
Thanks for letting me tell his story, at least the little that I can put here.
Judy
