John Mullis, b 1645, indentured servant?

I was suggested to read 'Cavaliers and Pioneers' as to mention of John Mullis's entry into Virginia, circa 1667. What I found led to further questions.
Was John possibly an indentured servant? If it is believed he was born in 1645 (or about) that would have made him in his teen's on his arrival; perhaps he was an orphan in England?
Just wanted to throw the thought out there...
