Hi Marlene,
The connection may be by name, not lineage, In the 17th century servants of a landowner were assigned the landowners name. This was the general practice in Jamaica. However, I would encourage you to check with the Jamaican Public Records office. They should have details of Valentine's estate and possibly other records that will assist you locate your ancestors.
