MUNRO @ Tullich, Glenaray ARL SCT 1800s
According to a member submission on the IGI Angus MUNRO married Jannet McARTHUR in 1798 in the parish of Inveraray and Glenaray ARL SCT.
The IGI also lists from parish records the baptism of four children to this couple:
Martin – 1803 in parish of Kilchrenan & Dalavich ARL SCT
Duncan – 1805 in parish of Kilchrenan & Dalavich ARL SCT
Anne – 1813 in parish of Glenorchy & Inishail ARL SCT
Susan – 1816 in parish of Glenorchy & Inishail ARL SCT
Census returns show another son: Charles – born about 1811 in Inishail ARL SCT.
Census returns 1841 through to 1881 show Martin, who remained single, to be a farmer at Tullich in Glenaray ARL SCT.His mother Jannet is with him in 1841 and his brother Charles and sister Susan, both unmarried, are with him at that address in many of the returns.
Martin’s sister Anne married Angus BELL in 1837 and they farmed on a neighbouring property at Tullich South. One of their daughters, Mary, married a Duncan McCOLL and another, Isabella married a Duncan McNEILL who in 1891 was managing Tullich South farm for his father-in-law.
I believe that Angus MUNRO is the son of Duncan MUNRO and Christian FLETCHER who feature at Tullich in the 1779 Census of the Duke of Argyll’s Estates.
It is possible that his wife, Jannet McARTHUR, is the daughter of Charles McARTHUR and Ann MUNRO who are also at Tullich in the same Census.
I am interested in contact with any researchers of these families or of the Tullich area of Glenaray.
