Don't know if I'm on the right track or not, but here goes: My ggggrandfather was Joseph Murray b.1791 France. The family name was changed to Murray from a french name that sounded like Murray but had a"T" on the end of it. Murat is the conclusion I came to after years of thinking my Mother had to be mistaken. I had never seen the name before. My ggrandfather was John Baptiste Murray and told this story to his grandaughter. They came to Cananda from France then into U.S. through New York state. I haven't traced exactly where they came into Canada yet. Is this possible(the Murat/Murray name change?
