Somerset Murleys 1700s

I was interested in Ian's message re. Edward Murley and Elizabeth Rendle of Somerset. They were the parents of Mary Murley 1790-1837. She married William Murley 1788-1870 (midshipman at Trafalgar, retiring as Captain R.N.)
They were my ggg grandparents and I would like to know how they shared the same surname ? 1st cousins or was William's father-in-law HIS cousin? Can anyone enlighten me please?
