Andy,
Think that is an error in the index.I was going thru the 1850 census, Cabarrus Co, NC on genealogy.com and found it to be only 24 pages long. Way to small for that to be all of Cabarrus Co.But when I hit "previous page" low and behold, more Cabarrus County census records. The census index at the top of the page, though, was telling me I was in Morgantown, Burke County census records.
My Murph connection is with Samuel Murph who married Esther Shinn. This couple and half of their children disappear after the 1860 census, never to be found again.
Believe Samuel's mother was Elizabeth (nee????) Murph. Can't seem to find out who the father might be.Elizabeth Murph is living next door to Samuel Murph in the 1840 census, and in the 1850 census also.Elizabeth is still living in 1860 but appears to be deceased by 1870.
1820 census shows the following Murph people in Cabarrus Co, NC:
Daniel Murph on page 97
Elizabeth Murph on page 100
Jacob Murph on page 100
John Murph on page 95
In Pitt Co., NC is Spencer Murph
