I am looking for three brothers, all stonecutters, in late 1800s New York City. Bernard (1818-1875) was married to Ann Packenham and had six children -- James, Ann (1848), William (1849), John (1849), Garrett (1860) and Elizabeth (1861). Brother James was born in 1835, married Annie, and had at least eight children -- William (1858), Mary (1862), James (1863), John (1865), Peter (1867), Garrett (1869), Jane (1872) and George (1875). Garrett, the third brother, was born 1834, married Eliza and had two children -- Annie (1861) and John (1867). All three brothers and their descendants seem to have used the surnames Murtagh, Murtaugh and Murtha interchangeably, and the brothers appear in various New York City directories for the latter part of the century. I strongly suspect their father was William Murtagh (1796-1874), but I've never picked up the slightest trace of where in Ireland they came from. Do these people ring a bell with anyone?
