William Murtagh of Westmeath, 1796-1874.

Since my last post, I'm zeroing in on Westmeath as the home of William Murtagh, the patriarch of my Murtagh family.

There are two William Murtaghs in Griffith's Valuation I'm interested in, both in Westmeath, Granard, Moygoish Barony, Street Parish. One is in Correaly, the other in Tinode townland. Does anyone know anything about either of these people?

Here's what I know about my people. William was born 1796 and died 1874 in New York. He had at least four children: Bernard, born Ireland, 1818; Ann, born Ireland, 1824; Garrett, born Ireland, 1834; and James, born Ireland, 1835. Bernard married Ann Pakenham in Ireland in 1848. Bernard and Garrett emigrated to the US in 1850, Ann a little earlier than that. James came over around 1857. Bernard had two children born in Ireland -- Ann, born 1848, and William, born 1849.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Kirk
