Dear Nigel

My name is Helen Doherty (married name Bester) I am the daughter of Ethel Murtagh, daughter of Thomas Murtagh Junior mentioned, son of Emma Curedale and Thomas Murtagh.

I'm researching the family tree aswell. I am trying to identify the jewish connections within the family tree. My mother always said her paternal grand mother ie. Emma Curedale had jewish roots. Emma's parentage is confusing because her father John Standish Curedale seems to have been married twice once to Sarah Ann Sharrock(I think this is Emmas mother) and then to Esther (Theresa\Tissie) Jacobs Levenston (The jewish connection). The dates of the marriages are confusing as Sarah died in 1927 and John in 1910. So did he divorce Sarah first. Are both his wives jewish or just his second wife. Is he jewish do you know anything about this?

Any information you have on either side would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Helen
