Thank you for your interest and effort in locating the grave of Fr. William Murtaugh. We have been in possession of a few letters written by him to his relatives in Chicago including one about his return train travel from Chicago after officiating at the mass and burial of his cousin Matthew Murtaugh in 1918. All the pieces of information in our possession fit the dates on his gravestone. This is an essential part of our family history and we truly appreciate your help. The second photo of Matthew Murtaugh, d. 1874 now creates a new mystery. Was there any relationship? Matthew is a Murtaugh family name in our line going back to Matthew b.1800 in Louth as well as Matthew b. 1875 in Louth who died in Chicago in 1918 during the influenza outbreak.
