A List:

Sorry for my delay in responding.

These are interesting ideas, although I am having trouble proving or disproving any of them.

Despite Felty's record of Patsy's being the daughter of Jeremiah Rich, I have postings from several Rich family members showing Patsy as the daughter of Warren Sr. Not sure which is correct or how to establish with certainty.

Either way, however, the footnote about John's being in Missouri is certainly suggestive that they had left Hamilton County probably sometime between 1833 (year of John and Patsy marriage) and 1842 (also supported by the indicated state of birth for Sydney Jane, although I find those census birthstates somewhat unreliable). However, if one believes the census birthstates, then you have to believe that the family was in Kentucky from 1839/1840 (birth year of Abraham) to 1843/1844 (birth year of Enoch) and moved to Missouri sometime prior to 1845/46 (birth year of Sydney Jane). I'm not sure how that fits with Felty's comment about delinquent Hamilton County taxes in 1842 (unless he was referring to very old delinquent taxes arising sometime between 1833 and 1839/1840, which is possible).

I do have indication that Jeremiah (b. abt 1784; NC) married a Sidney Lowery, which might support your theory about the 1850 census entry being Jeremiah's widow and simply being incorrect as to her gender. The census age would have the person in the 1850 census born about 1788, which would put her in the same general timeframe as Jeremiah. However, I don't have any record of Jeremiah's and Sidney's children, so I don't know whether the John Rich (b. 1828; KY) and William Rich (b. 1830; KY) enumerated with Sidney in 1850 would actually correspond with Jeremiah's and Sidney's children's names. I do like the simplicity of this being the Musgraves' children's grandmother with whom they were living after their parents died a few years earlier (and, presumably, the person after whom the granddaughter, Sydney Jane Musgraves, was named).

You are right that the 1840 census enumeration is not a perfect fit based upon the children as we know them. I need to do some looking to see if there is any sign of John in either Kentucky or possibly Missouri in 1840.

Interesting observation about the possible Anderson connection. Problem is it is such a common name that it would be hard to run down any real connection (at least not without a lot of work on the Anderson genealogy).

Do you have a copy of Felty's record that you might be able to email to me (robert.musgraves@gmail.com)?

Thanks for your thoughts. I'll continue to work on it and report back if I learn anything significant. Please let me know if you have any other thoughts or learn anything else.

Bob Musgraves
