I have read with interest all the thoughts on Sidney Rich. I have a Rich to add to the puzzle that I believe is somehow related to this family.
John Wesley Rich b 1813 KY md Nancy Creek 1 Aug 1834 White Co., Illinois. In 1840 they lived in Hamilton Co., IL, but were in Lawrence Co., Missouri by 1850, Burnet Co., TX by 1860, and Lamar TX by 1880. He died in Lamar 21 Oct 1895. His children were: Joseph Killian 1838, Sarah Jane 1839, Sidney 1841, Arvile Sexton 1848, Robert "Robin" 1848, John Wesley Jr 1850-1852, William H 1851, Jeremiah 1852, Caroline 1855, George W 1859.
The names are very similar to the ones being discussed. As to Sidney b 1841, in 1850 and 1870 she was listed as female, but in 1860 she was listed as male. It must be a confusing name for census takers.
I'd appreciate any reponse to this.
