John M. White

I have been hitting a brick wall with my great-grandfather's name. It has been passed down through the various family members that the name was originally known as Musselwhite. Consequently, my mother, along with her nine brothers, her father, aunts and uncles all carry the initial "M" before their name; in fact, this is their middle initial as the name was shortened to White, but it had to be before my great grandfather came to Louisiana from either Georgia or Alabama. John M. White was born in 1869, allegedly in Alabama. He married my great-grandmother, Ella Holloway, born 1870, who was the daughter of George and Martha Holloway of Georgia and Alabama. They settled in Louisiana about 1870, in Lincoln Parish, Ruston, Louisiana. Can anyone enlighten me?
