Lehigh Co.,PA MUTH Family

This is an update for the MUTH family that lived mostly in the western part of Lehigh County, PA [geographically inWeisenburg, Lynn, South Whitehall, North Whitehall, Upper Macungie, Salisbury and Whitehall Townships and the communities located therein, like Cetronia, Egypt, Copley, Schnecktsville, Seiberlingville, Trexlertown, Foglesville, Neffs, Laurys Station, and others] and northeastern Berks County [primarily Albany Township, Stoney Run - Kempton area, but over the years also Greenwich, Maxatawny and Longswamp Townships; and one source says in earliest settlement generation perhaps lived in Upper Bern Township]. In some cases farms literally stradled the county line.
This is what I currently know, from others, including "cousins" who have posted in this string, or from my own research and confirmation. I believe this info to be accurate. I hope this will help others getting started with this specific Muth family group.
Earliest confirmed Muth to settle in this region is John [perhaps Johann] Muth who married Elizabeth Schuler. I currently only know about them from what is published in vol. 3 of the Lehigh Co. History [and several statements published naming thier son's parents], but it is indicated there that John came to Weisenburg Twp./ Albany Twp. in late 1700s from Upper Bern Twp where his father had settled and perhaps where John was born. [Farther research needed on this].
At present I only know of one of their children. There may have been others since I have found in early 1800 census reports Muth's in the region who do not yet "fit" this specific family.Solomon Muth born April 27, 1806, died November 18, 1876 is the son I know about for sure. He married Mary Ann Brobst,[daughter of John Brobst who was the son of Samuel Brobst and Elisabeeth Reitz] born July 16, 1817, died August 8, 1872. Much of the knowledge I have of the greater Muth family in the 1800s comes from the incredible work and research compiled and published by the Brobst family researchers. There were two emmigrant Brobst/Probst brothers and the three sons of one of them, who came to the PA colony from the Alsace region of Germany/France and were some of the earliest settlers in Weisenberg Township in the early part of the 1700s as the Penn family opened that region for settlement. Muth's & Brobst's were neighbors and fellow church members for over 150 years in this vicinity.
Solomon and Mary Ann had 6 sons and 6 daughters between 1841 and 1859, [all but one stayed in the area when married, though two did move across the Lehigh River to Allen Township,Northampton County]. Most Muth's living in the region today probably can trace their origins to this couple through their sons: Willoughby John who married Polly Weisner [5 sons, 4 daughters]; Daniel B. who married Marie[Mary] Salem [Soly] [ 4 sons, 5 daughters]- my family line; Solomon Albert who married Eliza Eck [8 sons, 3 daughters]; Seth - died young; Charles [Carl] who married Amanda Dietz [2 sons, 3 daughters] and Alfred who married Annie ? [2 sons] and Hannah Strahm Cole. Their daughters were Sarah Ellen Elmenda who married Jacob B. Miller [4 children]; Sarah Jane who married Joseph Howard [3 children]; Amanda Maude who married Daniel Stebelton [1 child]; Eliza Anna who married Calvin Kohler [10 children]; Agnes who married Samuel Frankenfield [10 children]; and Mary who married Oliver Dengler [1 child].
Willoughby John's sons born 1870 to 1886 were named Solomon, Walter D., William A., Robert J and Charles O. Daughters were Agnes, Catherine, Sadie and Susie.
Daniel's sons born 1864 to 1891 were named Charles L., Lewis J., Harvey W. and Archibald [our grandfather]. Daughters were Ann, Elizabeth, Lilly, Eva and Elsie.
Solomon Albert's sons born 1870 to 1898 were named Seth, John, Andrew, Albert, Morris, Thomas O., Harry and James. Daughters were Rosa, Jennie and Elizabeth.
Charles [Carl]'s sons born 1887 to 1896 were named William and Edgar. Daughters were Florence, Jannie and Hattie.
Alfred's sons born 1880 to 1893 were Charles F. and Samuel A.
I will be happy to expand on this with more details as requested. Will do so as seperate postings so any posts and discussion can be branch specific.
If anyone has found additional information about John Muth or the actual original Muth immagrant family in the 1700s please share your information and sources.
