Alston Nabors in South Carolina
Like many other folks, I am trying to establish the parents of Alston Nabors who was born in 1812 in Greenville District of South Carolina. He later moved to Sabine Parish, Louisiana and married and raised a family there.
The name "Alston" intrigued me. After a little research in South Carolina history, I learned that there was a South Carolina Regiment, the Third Regiment, in the War of 1812, commanded by Lt. John Alston. I obtained a copy of the roster of the men in this regiment from the SC Archives. The Nabors/Neighbors who were enlisted in the this regiment were: Arthur, Blassingame, James, two Johns (one a Captain, the other a Private) and Warren. I figured that a man who was in this Regiment and who had a newborn son might name that child Alston.
The only Nabors/Neighbors in the 1810 Census of Greenville County, SC were Arthur & Blassingame. Hence, one of these two men could possibly be the father of Alston. I learned later that they both later moved to Alabama. Benny Gordon in his message #279 about Blassingame shows an "unknown son" born about the time of Alston. Could Blassingame be the father of our Alston?
Please contact me for any questions, clues and/or comments.
