Josef/Joseph Nadolny, Passaic NJ
I recently visited Poland and met my family there, and learned the circumstances surrounding my grandmother's moving to the US in 1920. Grandmother was Marianna Grzesinski, and her mother was Jadwiga Nadolna (1870-1941). Jadwiga's parents built the house that is still in the family (in Wieszkowo, Poland, near Poznan). Jadwiga's father: Jan Nadolny (1846-1904), and Jan's parents were Piotr Nadolny and Mareanna Naskret.
My grandmother's passage to the US was paid for by a cousin, Josef Nadolny. Ellis Island records for my grandmother show Jozef as living in Passaic NJ. I know he arrived here before 1920, but I can't match him to any of the Ellis Island Josef Nadolnys with certainty.
According to my family, he was an aide to a military officer, and actually got in a bit of trouble with his superiors and "escaped" to the US, and was not heard from for a while, until a letter came offering to pay my grandmother's passage to the US. They also claimed to have been told he was fathered by a catholic priest.
So needless to say, I'm curious about finding out about this guy. Anyone have any idea what might have happened to a Josef Nadolny of Passaic?
