I had thought that I lost this information but I found it. In a book about of local county biographies it tells that Williams dad was a native of Alsace-Lorriane and perished in the snows on the retreat from Moscow. After this his widow moved to Hesse-Darmstadt with their only child (sorry not baby). William moved to America in 1831. That is all it mentioned about his father.
