Proceedings of the Board of Anson County Commissioners – Volume 2 page 283 – December 5, 1881 – The State of NC verses Daniel Gould – Warrant for Assault & Battery with intent to kill – It appearing to the Board of Commissioners of Anson County, Daniel Gould the Defendant is now confined in the common jail of Anson County & it appearing to the Board that W.B. Carpenter, the party upon whom the assault & battery is alleged to have been committed has since died, as is alleged from said assault & battery, & it appearing to the Board that said Defendant should be removed to some other jail for safe keeping, for awhile at least, it is ordered by the Board that Thomas J. Hardison the sheriff of Anson County & the keeper of said county jail at once remove said Defendant, Daniel Gould, to the common jail of Robeson County, NC for safe keeping until such time as the Board may order his return to the jail of Anson County & the expenses of conveying said prisoner to the Robeson County jail & the expenses of keeping him while confined therein shall be paid by this county, this December 5, 1881
